How Does KERONG Centrally Supplied Lock System Work?

Understanding the architecture helps when specifying or integrating these systems. A typical KERONG centrally supplied locker installation consists of four layers:

Layer 1: The Electronic Locker Lock

The physical lock unit mounted on each locker door. KERONG's centrally supplied locks — such as the KR-S1113B, KR-S99S — are motor-driven or solenoid-driven devices designed to receive power and control signals via wired connection. They have no internal battery and rely entirely on the central power supply.

Each lock includes:

  • A locking mechanism (motor bolt, rotary latch, or solenoid)

  • Status LEDs (occupied/vacant, open/closed)

  • Optional RFID reader integrated into the lock face

  • Optional internal LED lighting and USB charging ports (KR-S1113B)

  • Signal lines for bi-directional communication


Layer 2: The Control Unit (CU)

The Control Unit is the sub-controller that manages a cluster of locks. KERONG's KR-CU16 control units can each manage up to 16 electronic locker locks, with multiple control units chainable to manage large locker banks of any size.

Control units handle:

  • Power distribution to connected locks

  • Signal routing between locks and the central system

  • Real-time status reporting (occupied/vacant per locker)

  • Local alarm event processing


Layer 3: The Bus Unit (BU) / Master Controller

The Bus Unit aggregates multiple Control Units and serves as the gateway between the lock network and the higher-level management software. It communicates via TCP/IP or RS485 — making integration with existing building management systems, access control platforms, and HR software straightforward.


Layer 4: The Management Software / Terminal

The top layer is where facility managers and operators interact with the system. This can be:

  • A central touchscreen terminal located in the locker area

  • PC-based management software accessible via any browser

  • A cloud-based platform with real-time dashboards, user management, and reporting

  • An API integration with third-party access control or ERP systems

Users can also interact via a self-service terminal, selecting and releasing their own locker without any staff involvement.
